Dr.Press has been working with wood and metal all his life. First, through undergraduate school to work his way through school, and then as a hobby. Several years ago, his son Robert became interested in Renaissance Faire, and Medieval re-enactment. He persuaded Dr. P to take a class together in Artistic Blacksmithing, and the process began. They started their hobby volunteering at Ringwood Manor, and doing interpretations of 18th century Blacksmithing in Ringwood's authentic 18th century coal fired forge. Together they have been making swords and armour for their own enjoyment, but the calibre of their work has lead to commissions being accepted, and their hobby began to pay for itself. All the team's work is hand crafted using modern and ancient techniques. In addition to a coal fired forge, they use plasma cutting, MIG, ARC and Oxy/Acetylene welding techniques. Some of the recent oevres d'art in steel and brass produced by the team of Dr. Stephen and Robert Press, are shown here:
If you have an idea for something in steel or brass, the Presses are accepting commissions on a limited, first come, first serve basis. Inquire at 201-569-1444 (please make a sketch of what you want).
